...and 'All That Jazz!' 23 x 30cm on 13mm deep MDF board.

‘Arazamataz! It’s got plenty of Jazz!’ I’ve experimented here with tons of new and unfamiliar techniques (to me!) including Golden Modelling Paste (for the background texture) and stiff foil which I indented and boot-polished. I’ve also added cheesecloth (around the foils) and embellished with silver thread and recycled old buttons from Mama’s sewing box. I think some of them have been around longer than me!  Read more…

Tulips need our Earth!

Red Tulips

Tulips with Blue Glass.

Okay, just finished up on my most recent piece!  I’ve experimented with crinkled tissue paper, glue, translucent and opaque layers, dimantes and even toilet paper (for the frame!!).  I drew the lines on first with the black gutta and tissued over and started by blacking the whole thing (see below).  Then it has been a series of acrylic layers, trials and adjustments to bring the whole piece together.  I’ve learned a lot about technique through this painting – a lot about layers,  about adding then taking away and just leaving a residue.  I love how well the stencil turned out on the table cloth. Liv-Luv-Make joins Technorati

Posted by Suzie on Mar 18, 2009 in Diary

I have joined Technorati. A way to get your blog noticed. Progress on my latest painting is a little slow with so many other ‘things’ going on.  Will be reporting back soon though – shouldn’t take too long now.

Socially Speaking……….

Posted by Suzie on Mar 13, 2009 in Diary

The pace is quickening.  Life is speeding up (like I thought it could speed up any more!)  I seem to be moving more and more in the right directions and I have just had confirmation of this again this evening.  I visited a Fabric event in Bradford tonight, facillitated by Chi-chi Ekweozor, the founder of Real Fresh TV.  An early UK pioneer in online video, Chi-Chi advises individuals on the opportunities available for promoting, distributing and marketing work online………………………………………………………………………………….. Me and my Gal – Completed!

Posted by Suzie on Mar 9, 2009 in Diary
Me & My Gal.

Me & My Gal.

I’ve completed this painting with such ease!!  And I have of course, (as expected) really enjoyed the process.  Making sure I have achieved being ‘in the zone’ before I have started has helped me work better and I have done this through my intentions (thoughts), listening to audio (music and spoken word) and setting the correct working environment with little distraction.   I’ve been trying hard this week to keep myself grounded and I have felt in touch with myself (my true self!) most of the time, which I feel is an achievement with so much uncertainty around me at the moment.  We went to view nine houses at the weekend and had four viewings of our home last week!  I think we have got definite interest in ours but we still have no where to go.  We are travelling down to Nottingham this afternoon to view another house and I’ve got a really good feeling about this one!   I’m excited!  It’s hard to stay in the moment and prevent oneself from living in a future projected world in times like this. New painting on the way…….

Posted by Suzie on Mar 3, 2009 in Diary

Last week I attended a workshop hosted by my lovely local creative support agency Loca.  The event was facilitated by scriptwriter Adrian Reynolds of Evolver Talent, Nottingham, and was primarily based around those sometimes intimidating subjects of Networking and Marketing.  It was a fun meeting with lots of original ideas but I think the one that had the most impact on me was the suggestion that in order to best market ourselves we should (if possible) give ourselves a commission each time we do a new piece of work.  We were asked to ask ourselves the question “What would I like to see me do that only I can do?”   The theory being that by doing so our heart and soul would be put into that piece – so it has to be good! – Therefore standing out on it’s own merit, which I believe potential customers would see and recognise as being authentic.
